Background work, on your schedule.
Keep work in regional queues while consumers process at their own pace. Choose standard delivery or FIFO ordering for each message group.
An upload starts a job
Place a task on a queue when a file arrives. A worker leases the task, processes it, and acknowledges it after success.
Build resilient workers
Standard and FIFO queues
Use standard queues for parallel work, or FIFO queues for ordering within a message group and deduplication.
Visibility and acknowledgement
Lease a message while processing, extend visibility when needed, and delete it after completing the task.
Delays and dead-letter queues
Delay messages and move repeatedly failing work to a separate queue for inspection.
Metrics and encryption
Follow backlog, traffic, and processing in Telemetry. Use platform encryption or your own KMS key.
A simple worker lifecycle
01
Create a queue
Choose delivery mode, retention, visibility, and a dead-letter destination.
02
Send and receive
Producers enqueue messages; consumers receive them with a temporary receipt handle.
03
Acknowledge success
Delete a processed message using its receipt handle. Failed work becomes visible again after its lease.
Know what to expect
Standard queues provide at-least-once delivery, so consumers must be idempotent. FIFO ordering is scoped to a message group. Retention and visibility settings govern how long work remains available.
